Questions
Where do woodland mansions generate?
Only in dark forest biomes, and they are far apart, often thousands of blocks from spawn. That is why a map saves so much travel.
What do I get from a mansion?
Evokers drop totems of undying, and the chests hold some rare loot. Take armor, a sword and a plan, because mansions are full of vindicators.
The map shows nothing near me, why?
Zoom out and move around. Mansions are rare, and the map only marks those that can really generate in a dark forest.
