How to enable flying on a Minecraft server

If players get kicked with "Flying is not enabled on this server", the server's flight check is working. Here is how to change it on purpose.

1. Allow flight in server.properties

allow-flight=true

This stops the server kicking players for floating. It does not give anyone the ability to fly: it only stops the kick. It is needed for mods and plugins that let players fly, and for some elytra and parkour setups.

On Saryno: Settings, Allow flight, restart.

2. Give flight to people

Install EssentialsX (one click in the add-on list) and use:

/fly
/fly Name

Grant it with a permission, essentials.fly, to a rank in LuckPerms. Creative mode also flies.

Cautions

• Turning allow-flight on removes a safety net against flying hacks. Pair it with an anti-cheat plugin if you have a public server.
• Keep flight for staff or a donor rank if you want survival to feel like survival.
• A flying player loads a lot of chunks quickly. Lower view distance or pre-generate if it causes lag.
