Minecraft server name ideas and how to pick one

By Kosy · · 1 min read

A server name shows up in the server list, in your address and on every invite. A good one is short, easy to say aloud and easy to type.

Rules of thumb

  • Under 16 characters if you can.
  • No odd spelling that people will mistype (Cr4ftW0rld is hard to share).
  • Say it aloud once. If you have to spell it, pick another.
  • Check that the matching address is free: on Saryno your name becomes name.play.saryno.com.

Idea lists

Cosy and friendly: Lantern Hollow, Moss and Maple, Cobble Cottage, Pinecone Pals, Sunday Village, Little Meadow.

Adventure: Skyreach, Emberfall, Wildroot, Driftmark, Stonewake, Northwatch.

Competitive and minigames: ArenaForge, Blockbrawl, Crown Rush, Pixel Rumble, Last Spawn.

Humour: Creeper Therapy, Dirt Mansion, Mine Mine Mine, Zombie Day Care.

Community and school: The Common Room, Club Craft, Room 12 Realm, Library Lanes. See a server for a school or club.

Make it yours

Combine a place word (Hollow, Reach, Haven, Keep) with a nature or mood word (Ember, Moss, Silver, Quiet). Add your group's inside joke if you have one, because that is the name your friends will remember.

Avoid

  • Brands or trademarks: Mojang's rules do not let servers imply they are official. See Mojang's usage guidelines.
  • Names that are only a number or a version.
  • Anything you would be embarrassed to have on a banner.

After the name

Set the MOTD, pick an icon (a 64 by 64 PNG), and share the address. If you want strangers to find you, list your server.
