Minecraft 1.8 server hosting
Plenty of PvP players still prefer 1.8 for its combat. Saryno runs Paper from 1.8 up to the newest version, so you can host it without setting up Java yourself.
No card needed. 1 GB free forever.
What a 1.8 server needs
Minecraft 1.8 runs on Java 8, and the server software needs to match. Saryno picks the right Java for every version, so you only choose "1.8" when you create the server.
- Paper for 1.8, so you can use the plugins most 1.8 PvP servers rely on
- ViaVersion, one click, so players on newer clients can still join
- A file manager and console to set up kits, arenas and permissions
- Backups on paid memory before you change big things
Size it right
A small 1.8 server for you and your friends runs well in 1 GB. A PvP server with arenas, many plugins and a crowd wants 2 to 4 GB. You can start free and add memory when you need it.
Set up a 1.8 PvP server
Create a server, choose Paper, and pick version 1.8. Accept the Minecraft EULA and start it. A few minutes later you can join with a 1.8 client, or with a newer client if you added ViaVersion.
- Turn on the whitelist while you build your arenas, so only people you invite can join
- Use a permissions plugin such as LuckPerms to give moderators only the commands they need
- Take a backup before you change plugins or reset a map
- Keep
online-modeon, so nobody can join under someone else's name
Why host a 1.8 server somewhere else?
Old server software has known problems that no longer get fixed, so it is a poor idea to run it on a computer that holds your own files, with a port open to the internet. A hosted server keeps it on a separate machine, away from your home network. See our guide to running a 1.8 server for the details, and our guide to protecting a server for the settings that matter.
Questions
Can players on newer versions join a 1.8 server?
Yes, with the ViaVersion plugin, which you can add in one click. Players on older clients on a newer server need ViaBackwards.
Does the server support Paper 1.8?
